  2. Do you accept cash at toll booths on The Toll Roads?

Do you accept cash at toll booths on The Toll Roads?

No. On May 14, 2014, cash toll collection was removed from The Toll Roads. Although we removed one method of payment, we have introduced four new ways to pay tolls without stopping or fumbling for change.

Now, with five ways to pay tolls (FasTrak®, three new ExpressAccount® types and a One-Time-Toll® option), there's a custom payment method that will work for every driver - regardless their method of payment, when they want to pay their toll and how much of California they intend to explore.

Since 2010, we've been carefully researching the latest and most advanced toll collection technologies to improve your experience on The Toll Roads. After conducting consumer surveys and focus groups, we found that - in addition to FasTrak - drivers wanted more, easy ways to pay without stopping. So that's what we've provided.

  3. What is the status of the 241 Tesoro Extension?

What is the status of the 241 Tesoro Extension?

In October 2011, engineering and environmental work began on a plan to extend the 241 Toll Road from where it ends now (Oso Parkway) to Cow Camp Road in the vicinity of Ortega Highway. This project has been named the State Route 241 Tesoro Extension and will provide additional northern access for communities located inland of Interstate 5 (I-5) and commuters traveling to Orange County business centers from the Inland Empire via Ortega Highway. It provides an important alternative route to I-5.

Currently, the State Water Resources Control Board is reviewing the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency's (F/ETCA) petition requesting review of the regional water board's July 19, 2013, decision to deny the waste discharge requirement permit for the project.

Construction of this nearly-five-mile extension will create more than 2,000 Orange County jobs and an additional 407 jobs statewide. Click here to learn more.

  4. Can vehicles with three or more passengers ride for free on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads?

Can vehicles with three or more passengers ride for free on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads?

All vehicles on The Toll Roads must pay a toll.  However, some toll agencies in Southern California offer discounted rates or free rides to carpooling and/or high occupancy vehicles.  For more information please visit 91 Express Lanes (www.91expresslanes.com), SR 125 South Bay Expressway  (www.southbayexpressway.com),  I-15 Express Lanes ( http://fastrak.511sd.com), LA Metro Express Lanes (www.metroexpresslanes.net), or Bay Area FasTrak (www.bayareafastrak.org). It is your responsibility to know the toll rates and rules of each toll facility you use.

  5. Can hybrid or electric vehicles travel The Toll Roads for free or at a discount?

Can hybrid or electric vehicles travel The Toll Roads for free or at a discount?

Hybrid and electric vehicles are subject to standard toll rates on The Toll Roads.

  6. How will people with a rental car pay their toll?

How will people with a rental car pay their toll?

For years, The Toll Roads have been working with area rental car companies to provide FasTrak transponders to affix to their fleet of vehicles - there are currently 52,000 transponders in California rental cars. Car renters can "opt-in" to use the transponders to pay tolls during their time driving the rental cars and rental car companies arrange for the processing of all tolls.

If a rental car does not have a FasTrak transponder installed, the customer can use the One-Time-Toll payment option to pay tolls online or via our free app within 5 days of driving The Toll Roads.

Because each car rental agency has their own terms and conditions where tolling is involved, customers should check with the agency for specific terms and conditions.
