SEN. TOM HARMAN ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR COMPLETION OF THE 241 TOLL ROAD

IRVINE, Calif. (November 14, 2007) – After a history of opposing the Foothill-South 241 Toll Road project, Sen. Tom Harman has endorsed completing the final segment of the 241. Harman joins a long list of local, state and federal elected officials who believe the 241 is an important component to regional transportation plans.

Sen. Harman recently took a helicopter tour of the roadway alignment to get a comprehensive view of the project. The alignment goes through an inland portion of San Onofre State Park, which is leased from Camp Pendleton.  "Putting a highway through a state park had always been my major concern," said Harman. "But the tour made it clear the route doesn't appear to have the impact I had been told it would have."

Harman had been under the impression completing the 241 would damage Trestles Beach. The tour showed Harman that the 241 will connect to I-5 south of San Clemente about one half mile away from the coast. Studies show the road will not impact water quality or waves at the beach.

Sen. Harman also attributes his decision to support Foothill-South to TCA's offer of $100 million to fund improvements in the state park system and the fact that a study touted by opponents of the project turned out to be flawed.  To view the complete list of project supporters, visit: http://www.ftcsouth.com/home/supporters.asp
